Premier Surgical Associates in Knoxville has been awarded a three-year accreditation in Computed Tomography (CT) after a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

Vascular Access Imaging Center

Computed tomography, also known as a CT or CAT scan, is a painless x-ray procedure that takes multiple images of the human body which are then turned into a cross section image that includes bone, tissue and blood vessels.

A CT scan obtains images of parts of the body that cannot be seen on a standard x-ray. These scans often result in earlier diagnosis and more successful treatment of many diseases, including vascular disease and cancer. It is considered one of the best tools for studying the lungs, abdomen and arteries.

The accreditation means Premier Vascular Access and Imaging Center is performing at or above industry standards. "We want our patients to know that they are receiving the very best care available, and we are providing our physicians the very best tools for decision making" said Kevin Burris, CEO of Premier Surgical Associates.

The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer review. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They look at the qualifications of the personnel and assess the equipment used.

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and other radiologists, radiation oncologists and medical physicists. Programs focus on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
