Premier Advanced Laparoscopic & Weight Loss Surgical Services, a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, is the first weight loss surgery center in the region to offer biliary pancreatic diversion as a surgical option for its patients. "My partner, Dr. Keary Robert Williams Jr., and I both feel that it is important to provide patients with all viable options approved by the National Institutes of Health," said Dr. Stephen Boyce, a surgeon with more than 20 years experience in weight loss surgery. "We're pleased to announce that patients in East Tennessee will no longer have to leave the region to obtain laparoscopic biliary pancreatic diversion with duodenal switch."
The new procedure is similar to the popular Roux-en-Y gastric bypass but is reserved for patients with a body mass index of 50 or greater - a segment of the population increasing at a faster rate than any other.
"As the only comprehensive in-house multi-disciplinary team in the area, we feel that we are uniquely qualified to offer this procedure," said Boyce.
"The new procedure will be another tool to help our patients achieve a healthy weight and resolve many of their weight-related illnesses such as diabetes, sleep apnea and hypertension, to name only a few."
