Laparo-endoscopic Single-Site Surgery
Laparo-Endoscopic Single-Site (LESS) surgery, also known as single port access and single-incision laparoscopic surgery, is a minimally invasive, single-site procedure performed through the umbilicus (navel) that is available for qualified gallbladder and select appendectomy patients.
Recognized by the Cleveland Clinic as one of the Top Ten Innovations of 2009 because of its significant potential for patient benefit, the procedure allows access for up to three surgical and imaging instruments through the "keyhole" incision. The surgeon removes the port after the procedure, allowing the natural contours of the navel to hide the surgical incision.
