Anal skin tags are most commonly caused by stretched-out skin, usually due to previously swollen hemorrhoids.
The skin around the anus is relatively loose to allow easy passage of stools. However, it is also for this reason why it’s prone to be stretched by enlargement of the underlying hemorrhoidal blood vessels.
Anal skin tags may occur after hemorrhoidal flare-ups during pregnancy, heavy weight lifting, strenuous exercise, or straining from constipation or diarrhea.
Symptoms
Larger anal skin tags are usually associated with swelling, itchiness, the feeling of heaviness, and skin rash.
Treating Hemorrhoidal Skin Tags
Not a lot of people are aware but anal skin tags can be easily removed. Dr. Brian Garber of Premier Surgical Hemorrhoid Treatment Center in Knoxville, wants you to know that you don’t have to live with the nuisance from anal skin tags.
Anal skin tag removal is an outpatient procedure, which can be done in the doctor’s office in less than five minutes. It’s a minor procedure that requires very little to no downtime at all.
In many cases, anal skin tags are attached to small internal hemorrhoids that can usually be irradiated with Infrared Coagulation (IRC) laser treatments. A small laser exposes the hemorrhoids to short bursts of warm light, causing them to shrink and die over time.
