Congratulations! You have finally achieved your weight loss goal! All your hard work has finally paid off, but you are beginning to wonder what you’re going to do with the extra loose skin left behind by your dramatic transformation to match your reduced body size. Not to worry! We may have the right solution(s) for you.

There are two types of body contouring available to you. You can choose a non-surgical approach like cool sculpting, radiofrequency assisted lipectomy, etc. These are typically short-term fixes and only address mild-to-moderate laxity and excess of the skin and the underlying tissue, which may not be the right choices for you. If you are looking for a long-term solution then surgery is going to be your best option to remove excess sagging skin and fat while improving the shape of the underlying support tissue. The result is a better-proportioned appearance with smoother contours.

We all want to look and feel our best! You worked so hard to reach your goals and should take time to invest in you!

What are my surgery options when it comes to body contouring?
Body contouring pertains to any surgical procedure that improves the look or appearance of skin and tissues after a major weight loss. Body contouring can consist of the following procedures:

  • Breast lift: correct sagging, flattened breasts with or without implants
  • Abdominoplasty (aka. tummy tuck): correct apron of excess skin hanging over the abdomen
  • Arm lift: correct sagging upper (inner arms), the so-called “bat wings”
  • Facelift: correct sagging and deflated face
  • Lower body lifts: correct sagging abdomen, buttocks, lower back, and outer thighs
  • Medial thigh lift: correct sagging inner thighs

What will the process look like?
Once you have taken that leap of faith and decide to move forward with surgery after your consultation, here is what you can expect:

Body contouring procedures are performed in stages due to the technical demand and the different areas that need to be addressed. First and foremost is patient safety! Each set of procedure(s) use(s) general anesthesia and most will have you back home in your own bed on the same day. During your recovery, expect to have dressings or bandages applied to your surgical site(s) after the procedure(s). In some cases, there could be small, thin tubes that are temporarily placed under your skin to drain excess blood or fluid.

It is completely normal to have some discomfort for up to four weeks and, depending on the procedure(s), it may take 6 to 8 weeks for you to have a full recovery and get back to all of the activities you enjoy. During your recovery from body contouring surgery, you will be given specific instructions including how to take good care of your surgical site(s), what medications to take that will aid in healing, specific concerns to look out for at your surgical site, and when to follow up with your surgeon.

The results of body contouring are generally long-lasting, provided that you maintain a healthy lifestyle and stable weight. Good results are expected from your procedure(s); although results can vary from one person to another as we all have different body morphology. While some changes can be appreciated immediately, given the need for staged procedures to achieve optimal results, it can take 2 years or more to see the final results. In the end, you can achieve a body contour that matches your new weight and proportion!
