Vascular Treatment Eases Knox Lady’s Leg Pain

Inflicted by severe leg pain for years, 58-year old Rhonda of Knoxville could barely make it through her work day.

“I’m a bookkeeper, but also work at a donut shop. During a busy day I’m on the floor from 7 am to 3:30 pm. By the time I got off work, all I could stand to do was sit in the recliner for the rest of the day. I worked and sat… that’s all I did. On Sundays I went to church and then came back home because I just couldn’t stand to be out or move anymore.”

The swelling had gotten so awful, and the pain so bad, that she had no life anymore. She was no longer able to play with her grandson or explore life outside of her home. Knowing she couldn’t continue to live like this, she began to look for a solution.

After consulting with her family doctor, Rhonda was referred to Vascular Surgeon, Dr. Chris Pollock, at the Premier Vascular Center on Papermill Drive in Knoxville. Dr. Pollock did a Venogram – an x-ray that shows how blood flows through veins – and it showed abnormality in her vein. He also placed the IVUS Catheter, a new imaging device that gives a 360 degree view inside a blood vessel, that allowed him to see the location of narrowing and compression of vein to determine the appropriate size of stent needed, and where to put it. Dr. Pollock was then able to place a stent to open the blood flow in her leg.

Rhonda had the procedure done on a Thursday and was back to work on Monday. She says that by the weekend, her leg felt so much better that she was able to play outside with her 3-year old Grandson. For the first time in years she was able to GO OUT and do Christmas shopping with her family, instead of purchasing everything online. She’s very pleased with Dr. Pollock and the outcome of the procedure.

“My life has changed since having the procedure. I haven’t felt like this in years. My grandkids are so happy to see that grandma can play with them out in the yard now! And you know what? I have even lost weight! 20 lbs total since the procedure was done, now that I can finally move around. I feel like I have a completely new leg. I wish I would’ve had the procedure done 3 years ago!”
