Drooping or sagging eyelids may be a natural sign of aging, but they can keep your eyes from opening completely. Whether it’s the cosmetic part or functionality (improving the way you see things) that concerns you, Premier Surgical Plastic Surgery can put an end to your drooping eyelids through blepharoplasty.
What is blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is a surgery performed on your upper lids, lower lids, or both. Also known as eyelid or eye lift surgery, blepharoplasty removes the excess skin, reduces the puffiness/heaviness, and restores the youthful, natural contour of the eyelids.
What does the process look like?
Your plastic surgeon will evaluate your facial anatomy thoroughly to determine the best procedure(s) suited for your concerns, which may or may not require a combination of treatment modalities. Eyelid surgery is performed, as an outpatient procedure, in an accredited office-based surgical facility, a licensed ambulatory surgery center, or at the hospital. It typically takes no more than 2 hours.
Before your plastic surgeon begins the procedure, medications are administered to maximize your comfort during the procedure. Local anesthesia with intravenous sedation or general anesthesia may be chosen by your doctor(s), including the anesthesiologist. The procedure involves using the natural lines or creases of your eyelids to remove excess skin, to remove or reposition fat deposits, and/or to tighten the muscles or tendons around the eyes.
After the procedure, you may have blurry vision from the ointment we put (to keep it moist and protected) and from the light. It’s normal. You may also have some swelling and occasional bruising in days to come, but your eyelids should look more youthful and rejuvenated within a week or two.
The result of upper lid blepharoplasty is typically good for 5 to 7 years. If you also have your lower lids done, this rarely needs to be done again.
