We’re excited to welcome David C. Harrison, DPM, FACFAS, to the Premier Surgical Associates team! Dr. Harrison is a double board-certified podiatrist with advanced training in foot and ankle repair, joint replacement, sports injury care, and diabetic limb preservation. With a passion for keeping patients on their feet—literally—Dr. Harrison brings both expertise and compassion to every case he treats.

We recently sat down with Dr. Harrison to learn more about his background, his approach to care, and what he enjoys outside the clinic. Here’s what he had to say:

Q: Can you tell us a little about what you do as a podiatrist?

Dr. Harrison: As a podiatrist, I treat a broad spectrum of foot and ankle issues—from ingrown toenails and bunions to fractures and diabetic foot care. Sometimes when your feet hurt badly, surgery is the only solution. I use minimally invasive techniques whenever possible to get patients back on their feet and out of pain.

Q: What kinds of surgeries or treatments do you specialize in?

Dr. Harrison: I perform a wide range of procedures including corrective surgery for bunions and hammer toes, plantar fasciitis treatment, joint fusion for osteoarthritis, and even foot joint replacement. Most people are familiar with hip or knee replacements, but we can do similar things in the foot to relieve pain and restore movement.

Q: What inspired you to pursue podiatry?

Dr. Harrison: I played a lot of sports growing up, and I learned early on that when your feet hurt, nothing else goes well. That stuck with me. Now I get to help people relieve that pain and get back to their normal, active lives—and that’s incredibly rewarding.

Q: Tell us a bit about your education and training.

Dr. Harrison: I earned my medical degree from Kent State University’s Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. After that, I completed a residency in foot and ankle reconstruction at Detroit Medical Center. I also completed a trauma fellowship in Germany at St. Vincent’s Catholic Clinic.

Q: What’s your approach to patient care?

Dr. Harrison: I treat every patient like family. If we can solve a problem conservatively, that’s always my first choice. Surgery is there if we need it, but I want every patient to leave with a clear, confident plan for their care.

Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Dr. Harrison: I spend a lot of time with my wife and three kids—we are frequently at the lacrosse field, at the lake, or chasing whatever sport is in season with the kids. I used to race triathlons and even completed an Ironman. Being outdoors and staying active is important to me and my family.

Q: What advice would you give to someone dealing with foot pain?

Dr. Harrison: Don’t wait. Prevention is key in podiatry. If we catch things early, we can often avoid more serious issues. I understand how debilitating foot pain can be, and I’m here to help get you back to doing what you love—without pain.
