It is our goal at Premier Surgical Associates of Knoxville to provide the best surgical care possible to our patients.

We have surgeons who are well-experienced in their fields of specialties.

Today, we will introduce you to one of our general surgeons, Dr. Michael Kelly

Dr. Kelly has been with Premier Surgical Associates for 15 years and sees patients in our office at Parkwest Medical Center in West Knoxville.

What do you do?

“As a general surgeon, I take care of mostly intra-abdominal problems such as gallbladder disease and hernia repair.

I have a specific interest in minimally invasive laparoscopic colon surgery, anti-reflux surgery, complex hiatal hernia repairs, and laparoscopic solid organ surgery such as splenectomy and adrenalectomy.”

Where did you study Medicine?

“I went to the University of Tennessee here in Knoxville and went to medical school and residency at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. I then did an extra fellowship year on minimally invasive surgery at Mayo Clinic.”

Why do you like laparoscopic surgery?

“I like laparoscopic surgery because I can really see the true benefits to the patients. They really respond better to smaller incisions, quicker recovery, and less pain.”

What would you like your patients to know about you?

“I’m older than I look. I’m actually been in practice here with Premier Surgical for 15 years.”

What’s your philosophy of care?

“I think it’s important to give each patient as much time as possible to answer questions.”

How would you describe your approach to surgery?

“I try to give an honest and thorough evaluation of each patient to make sure that surgery is appropriate, beneficial, as well as safe for each individual case.”
