The physicians of Premier Surgical Associates of Knoxville treat a wide range of conditions including cancer. We have experienced surgical oncologists who have years of experience in performing cancer procedures.

We are proud to introduce to you Surgical Oncologist Dr. Greg Midis. He serves patients at our Premier Surgical location at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Let’s get to know Dr. Midis a little better.

Tell us about your background.

“I’ve been practicing in Knoxville for the past 20 years; practicing surgical oncology or cancer surgery and treating diseases of the esophagus, down to the lower intestinal tract including skin and soft tissues. I also practice colon and rectal surgery, treating mostly malignant or cancerous disease.

I also treat benign diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease and other conditions.

I did my surgical training in Baltimore Maryland at the University of Maryland and then after that, trained in surgical oncology or cancer surgery at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas. I also did a year of the colon and rectal surgery at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio

What do you do in your spare time?

“When I’m not in the hospital, I spend time with my 2 wonderful kids – a 13 and an 8-year old. When I have extra time, I work on my 56 Chevy and drive it around. I also do restorations for old jukeboxes and some old machinery.”

What’s your philosophy of care?

“Most of the patients I treat have a challenge in their life, that is, having a cancer diagnosis. I think most patients just want to have someone who would sit and listen to them, put together a plan for them.

Knowledge is power over the disease so once they get the knowledge about their disease, they can get their hands around it. We can then create a plan, whether it involves other disciplines and take it from there.”

What would you like your patients to know about you?

“I have the privilege of working at Premier Surgical Associates where there’s an emphasis on the individual patient care and compassion to patients.

I like people to believe that they’re coming to someone they can have their confidence in. Surgery ultimately is a technical job and it comes to getting the job done. And it takes someone with experience, with training. I think you get that once you come to Premier Surgical.”
