General Surgeon Shannon Beierle, MD, FACS, has joined the Premier Surgical Associates office at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. Dr. Beierle has been a  partner physician with the Premier Surgical office in Cleveland, TN, since 2019.

Dr. Beierle will serve as a Surgicalist at Parkwest, dedicated to treating acute care general surgery patients who come to the hospital’s Emergency Department. “Having a Surgicalist expedites the emergency care process,” explains Dr. Beierle. “Patients don’t have to wait for emergency surgery. I’m already here and ready when they need treatment.”

Dr. Beierle says acute care surgeries often include appendix and gallbladder removals, hernia repairs and bowel obstructions. She enjoys the opportunity to help patients immediately.

“Many patients who come to the Emergency Room are hurting and if they need surgery, I can make an impact quickly,” says Dr. Beierle. “It’s gratifying to help patients feel better very fast.”

Dr. Beierle is stepping into the Surgicalist role at Parkwest that has been filled by General Surgeon Dr. Norma Edwards since 2017. Dr. Edwards has now transitioned to an office-based surgical practice at Premier Surgical Parkwest.

Dr. Beierle is pleased to serve at Parkwest Medical Center. “It’s such a big, beautiful hospital and has a lot of resources for patients. I look forward to performing more minimally invasive options like robotics for emergency surgeries.”

She is also thrilled to be back in Knoxville. “I lived in Knoxville for six years while completing my General Surgery Residency,” smiles Dr. Beierle. “Knoxville is an awesome town with all the amenities of a larger city. It’s a beautiful place for my husband and I to raise our three children!”
