We are thrilled to announce the newest addition of Dr. David Kerekes to our Knoxville Premier Surgical Plastic Surgery team. Dr. Kerekes is a skilled and passionate plastic surgeon with extensive training and expertise. He brings a unique blend of artistry and innovation to the practice, and we are excited to share his story with you.
We recently sat down with Dr. Kerekes to ask him a few questions about his background, approach to patient care, and what excites him most about joining our team.
Can you tell us a little bit about your background and what inspired you to become a plastic surgeon?
“I grew up in the suburbs of Jacksonville, Florida, and from an early age, I realized I enjoyed working with my hands—building and creating things. That eventually led me to pursue a career in medicine and, more specifically, surgery. Plastic surgery, in particular, caught my attention because it allows for peak innovation, creativity, and artistry. That’s what drew me to the field and continues to excite me today.”
Where did you complete your medical training and residency?
“I attended medical school at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, and stayed there for my plastic surgery training. I completed an integrated plastic surgery residency, which means I went straight into six years of specialized training right after medical school. During that time, I trained in a wide range of plastic surgery specialties—reconstruction, trauma, pediatrics, craniofacial, and the full spectrum of cosmetic surgery.”
Do you have a particular area of plastic surgery that you specialize in or are most passionate about?
“My training prepared me to be a well-rounded plastic surgeon, but I’ve always been particularly drawn to facial and breast cosmetic surgery, body contouring, breast reconstruction, and Mohs reconstruction. I find facial aesthetic surgery especially fascinating because of its complexity and the profound impact it can have on someone’s appearance. The ability to enhance or restore a person’s appearance, often boosting their confidence, is incredibly rewarding.”
Are there any emerging technologies or procedures that you’re excited about?
“Definitely! In the world of body contouring, new energy devices have been emerging that enhance liposuction procedures by reducing inflammation and trauma during fat removal. These devices also improve tissue tightening and skin recoil, which has led to better outcomes in body contouring procedures. I’m excited to continue exploring and implementing these advancements.”
How would you describe your approach to patient care and consultation?
“I approach every patient interaction like a blank canvas. In plastic surgery, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution—each procedure needs to be tailored to the patient’s anatomy and goals. I take the time to get to know my patients, understand what they’re looking for, and then create a personalized plan to achieve the best possible outcome.”
What do you think is most important for patients to understand about the procedures they are considering?
“It’s crucial for patients to align their goals and expectations with what the procedure can safely provide. I always emphasize the importance of understanding the limits and possibilities of surgery, so they can make informed decisions and be satisfied with their results.”
How do you make sure patients feel comfortable and confident in their decision to undergo surgery?
“I believe education is key. By thoroughly explaining the procedure, expected outcomes, and the recovery process, I ensure patients fully understand what to expect. That way, they can make a confident, informed decision about moving forward.”
What do you think sets you apart in the way you care for your patients?
“Building trust with my patients is really important to me. I try to establish a relationship where they feel comfortable with me not just as their surgeon, but as a person. I know choosing to undergo surgery is a big decision, and selecting the right surgeon is just as critical. I want my patients to feel confident in their choice and comfortable knowing they’re in good hands.”
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? How do you find balance between your personal and professional life?
“I love being outdoors! My wife Rachel and I enjoy hiking, camping, and rollerblading whenever we get the chance. We also love spending time with family and friends. Music is a big part of my life too—I play the guitar and sing, even though I’m not great at it, it’s something I enjoy for fun. Finding balance is always a challenge, but I try to stay efficient with my time so that when I’m off, I can be fully present with my loved ones.”
How do you stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in plastic surgery?
“As surgeons, we’re lifelong learners. I keep up with the latest advancements by reading major medical journals and attending conferences where I can collaborate with other surgeons. This helps me stay on top of new techniques and technologies to provide the best care for my patients.”
What excites you most about joining Premier Surgical Practice and working with the team?
“It’s definitely the people. Premier Surgical has a strong culture of teamwork and patient-centered care, and that’s something I deeply value. Everyone I’ve met so far has been incredibly welcoming, and it’s clear that the focus here is on creating a collaborative environment where we can all thrive and provide the best care possible. I’m really excited to be a part of this team!”
